Speed dating for familier, Krohnengen Skole

Working with projects in my own neighbourhood, I either work within the frames of an institution (people connected to it) or arrange events that are open to all. The aim of the projects is to show the variety of people and knowledge that exists in our neighbourhood. Some projects aims towards exchange of knowledge, others focus more on opening up rigid social groupings, -yet other projects grasp both these aspects.

This project is organized and put into practice together with parents of the parents board of the school (FAU): Gerd Helene Bergsaker and Atle Kårstad.

why?
This event was arranged for the families of the fifth graders of Krohnengen Skole. Until this grade the pupils has been divided in two schools. We arranged a speed dating session for the families, so that having talked to unknown families once, doing it on other occasions would be easier.

what did we do?
The families from the two schools were marked with each their colour, and would sit down at tables according to these colours. For four minutes they were going to shake hands with the family across the table from them, show where they lived at an available map, and then each person around the table should tell a little bit about her or himself. When the time period was out everybody would stand up, people of one colour moving up one number in tables and people of the other colour moving down one number. This went on for approx one hour.

how many took part in the event?
40 out of 48 families took part in the event, approx 120 persons. We did a little bit of extra work to inform the immigrant families about the event. This resulted in three out of four of these families showing up.
